Hyatt Hotel Now Charges 30 Euros Per Day To Use Hotel Pool?

When I thought I had seen it all when it comes to travel and extra fees, there are occasionally things that still surprise me.

A reader dropped us a note that the much delayed Hyatt Regency Lisbon hotel in Portugal charges 30 euros, supposedly per person, to use the hotel pool. Unfortunately, there is no warning on Hyatt’s website that general hotel facilities are pay-for-play regardless of your status or booked room type.

You can access Hyatt here.

I have never encountered a hotel that would charge guests to use the hotel pool. However, there are sometimes fees to use sunbeds, as is the case with Hilton Diagonal Mar in Barcelona, which has leased the pool area to a third party, or saunas.

Hyatt should have a red warning for anyone looking to make a reservation for a stay at Hyatt Regency Lisbon about the fees to use the hotel pool.

I walked by this hotel this summer and was snapping some photos. One of the white-collar employees came to chat with me and told me that taking pictures of the hotel was illegal; I just laughed as I was standing on a public sidewalk. I guess they were embarrassed about the state of the construction and the chaos on the site.

The hotel’s location is not very good for Lisbon, but I will likely check the hotel out when in Lisob next time.

Are there any other hotels that charge hotel guests to use their pool? I cannot think of any.
