Google Now Lets Amex Cardholders Use Virtual Card Numbers

Google revealed tis week that Chrome’s “virtual credit card” feature is now available for American Express customers.

Google launched the the option to use a virtual credit card on Chrome last year but only for Capital One cardholders. These virtual cards create unique numbers for online transactions, protecting cardholders from fraud. If the merchant is not trustworthy, or if there’s a data breach in the future, the virtual card number can be easily replaced. But you won’t have to replace your physical card.

American Express cardholders can convert to and save virtual card numbers (VCN) when they use Autofill on Chrome and Android. This replaces the 15-digit physical card number with a virtual number. Virtual card numbers also automatically populate a dynamic four-digit security code (CID), making checkout that easier and safer.

To get started with a virtual card number, Card Members checking out with an eligible card using Autofill on Chrome and Android will be prompted to create a virtual card number. Once a virtual card number is created, the Card Member will see the option to pay for their next transaction using their virtual card number whenever they use Autofill at checkout on Chrome or Android.
